Um die Migration von an Kolloiden sorbierten Radionukliden einzuschränken beziehungsweise zu verhindern, sollten die Ionenstärke des Grundwassers im einschlusswirksamen Gebirgsbereich möglichst hoch sein und die Öffnungsweiten der Gesteinsporen im Nanometerbereich liegen.
