Legemiddelverket har ikke fått melding om dødsfall som kan knyttes til HPV-vaksinen. I all hovedsak er pasientene i bedring eller er helt friske igjen ved rapporteringstidspunktet.

De vanligste meldte bivirkningene av HPV‐vaksinen er hevelse og ømhet i armen der vaksinen er satt og hodepine. Det er også meldt om feber, kvalme/oppkast, diaré og magesmerter. Besvimelser og nesten‐besvimelser, med eller uten kramper og pustebesvær (hyperventilering), er ikke uvanlig ved vaksinering og kan skyldes smerter eller ubehag knyttet til nålestikket. Allergiske reaksjoner på vaksinen er sjeldne.

Per i dag finnes det to HPV-vaksiner på markedet i Norge: Gardasil og Cervarix. Jenter på 7. klassetrinn får tilbud om Gardasil som en del av barnevaksinasjonsprogrammet. I november 2016 startet et nytt, midlertidig vaksinasjonsprogram for kvinner født 1991 eller senere. Disse kvinnene får tilbud om Cervarix.
